UK Body Massage Therapy

Types of Massage Service Offered

You may choose between a table massage with oils, creams and balms, or a clothed massage performed on a large comfortable mat on the floor.

Thai Massage is the foundation for my work, although I also use other techniques to suit your individual needs. Massages range from slow and relaxing to including movement and passive exercises.

Massage Styles Practiced

Thai Massage is based on a body energy system. It involves pressing on points along energy (sun) lines, stretching all the main muscles of the body, and gentle rocking. This ancient healing art is often described as a type of assisted yoga. It is generally firm, deep work. I hear my clients say many times that, unlike me, their last Massage Therapist “didn’t go deep enough” However, I can also combine Thai Massage with other approaches, to be gentler. We will work out together what strength of pressure you need.

Thai Massage is traditionally practiced for at least 2 hours, to ensure a thorough massage, deep relaxation, invigoration and rebalancing. A shorter massage will concentrate on more specific areas of your body. As well as addressing the obvious areas of tension (head, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, back, hips, buttocks, legs and feet) Thai massage may also include abdomen work.

Zen Shiatsu is slow and rhythmic. Again, it is based on the concept of energy lines in the body (meridians). This may also be a firm or gentle massage.

Acupressure involves touching or pressing meridian points gently or firmly.

Therapeutic Stretching involves stretching specific muscles in the body, using resistance techniques.

Trigger Point Therapy involves pressing into trigger points in the muscles that allow the relaxation of that muscle.

Swedish Massage is the manipulation of muscles to bring about their relaxation.

Massage for Specific Areas of Tension

Here are some types of massage that may be included in your session or experienced independently. Many of my clients have commented that what makes my massage unique and special is specific attention to certain areas of the body.

Face and Head Massage

Do you grind or grit your teeth? Grin and bear it?

This massage can help to relax the delicate muscles around your eyes, and the strongest muscle in your body; the masseter (jaw muscle). Reducing the stress in your face will not only make you feel younger, but can even reduce the physical signs of ageing.

Shoulder, Neck and Back Massage

Problems with the neck and shoulder area are almost "epidemic." Anyone who types on a computer has extra tension in their neck and shoulders, and in their hands and wrists.
The muscles of the back and neck are particularly vulnerable to the dangers of this repetitive motion, due to their structure.

The massage I practice, while not quite being Physiotherapy or Sport Massage, may involve intense pressure on the shoulder and neck muscles, along with stretches, to ease the tension and bring your shoulders back down to their comfortable level.

Arm and Hand Massage

My clients are often surprised by how much tension they feel in their arms when I press them in certain areas. Thai Massage is blessed with knowing exactly where and how to press you to relieve some of this tension.

Abdomen Massage

This massage relaxes you from the inside.

When you feel stress it is very common to hold your breath and to contract around the abdomen. This massage works on the muscles in the belly, the lungs and the diaphragm to achieve profound relaxation for the body and mind, through breathing and muscle release.

I may also massage the small intestine, large intestine, liver, gall bladder, stomach and pancreas to increase your oxygen intake to and encourage detoxification of the internal organs.

Abdomen massage offers relief for many (often caused by stress) digestive ailments, including IBS, constipation, trapped wind, sluggish bowel, dysfunctions and circulation problems of the internal organs.

The abdomen may also be where you sense emotion. Massaging this area can release emotional distress. I take great care to ensure that you feel safe with me in this process.

Finally, if the abdomen massage is deep enough, it can also reach the spine and relax you in the lower back area too.

Lower Back, Gluteal and Leg Massage

Do you sit in an office chair all day?

If you do, chances are that your lower back, gluteal and hamstring muscles are abit tighter than is comfortable for you. Most of you will feel this as lower back ache.

This massage will wake your lower body up with stretches, movement, and pressure on all those big muscles. You are guaranteed to feel looser and more comfortable after this.

Foot Massage

Those tiny bones and muscles in your feet carry your body all day. This may explain why most of my clients fall asleep when I touch their feet.

Please note that I respect anyone’s wish to decline massage in particular areas.

Massage Therapy Testimonials

Please send me your Testimonial (including contact details if you like) if you wish to be included on my website.

"I found myself suffering from a sore neck and shoulders generated by sitting in front of a desk and computer for long hours and not helped at all by work generated stress. When not working I found it very difficult to relax due to the tightness of the neck and shoulders.

I'm not a person who particularly enjoys being touched or manhandled, even being bumped into in crowded places by strangers makes me feel very unsettled. So my first visit to Shelley's was with some trepidation and anxiety. I had absolutely no cause for concern or worry.

I have visited Shelley twice now and can honestly say her massage skills have helped alleviate a painful neck and shoulders. As an added benefit her massage AND advice of breathing deeply and pausing for a moment have certainly helped calm me down, reduce stress and an inclination to drive at high speed. I am now finding I can fully relax. This can only be for the better.

If you want a massage therapist you can trust has the knowledge, skills and experience to understand how best to treat a client then I would strongly recommend Shelley over any other massage therapist."
- Darren Moloney

"Whatever you did to my left leg yesterday resulted in my first awakening in as long as I can remember with NO pain/discomfort in my left hip, knee, or leg...what a delightful surprise!"
- M Mills

"I'm really going to miss Shelley, not just because she is a very talented therapist, but also because she is a gem of a person. I feel very fortunate to have met her, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that she is irreplaceable. She’s paid more attention to what's been going on with my body than I ever have. The fact that she constantly questions what works and what doesn't, and why, is something entirely new for me."
- Justin Middleton

Shelley Treacher has a gift for massage. I have been having bodywork done for over 15 years and I have never felt such relief and regaining of movement as I have after a Thai session with Shelley. I feel both extremely relaxed throughout and then energized later. I cannot explain it. All I know for sure is that I feel very grateful that we crossed paths while she was here in San Francisco. I will miss her dearly, as a trusted friend, and practiced Thai massage therapist. I look forward to her visits back. And I just might have to come and visit her in England; I doubt I will find her equal anywhere here."
- Mary Connors

"Thanks to Shelley some of my pain has been reduced where I'm able to start my work- out again. I thank her again for her great talents in massage therapy."
- Gil Vera

"It was my first experience with Thai massage and Shelley did a wonderful job.  It felt like effortless yoga combined with warm, personal attention.  Shelley has exceptional intuition and knows where to focus. Many thanks."
- Howard

"I have been receiving massage therapy from Shelley Treacher for over 1 year now.  I have had massage from a variety of people, and my experiences with Shelley are superb.  She is professional, kind, and attentive to my needs.  She has the touch of healing.  I feel great for days after; both physically and spiritually.

I can say without any reservations that I recommend Shelley as a massage therapist!" - C Jensen

"Working with Shelley has been a very enjoyable and enlightening experience.

She has what I call a "gentle power," putting me at ease while guiding me through the massage in a strong and mindful way. Not only have I experienced increased relaxation and flexibility working with Shelley, but I also had moments of profound emotional release during massage. I am truly grateful to her for her sensitivity and thoughtfulness."
- Frances Baca

"I have received therapeutic massage including Swedish, Shiatsu, Acupressure, Amma, Reflexology, Cranial-Sacral, and Thai on a regular basis for the last 20 years.

I have received massage from Shelley Treacher on a weekly basis over the last 14 months. Initially I sought her Swedish and Shiatsu table massage skills but, as my confidence in her increased, I was attracted to the Thai aspect of her practice. This has since evolved into my current preference for Thai massage as practiced by Shelley.

I can report a continual sense of growth, movement, and purpose, which has characterized my experience with Shelley. Under her intuitive and focused strokes and stretches each session moves forward an agenda of healing and wholeness.

Shelley is a detail oriented, caring, sunny-spirited professional whose dedication to the healing arts discipline is revealed immediately upon contact. This integrity coupled with her pleasant sense of humor and true humility provide an environment the likes of which I would not want to be deprived."
- Robert

"Shelley is a very special person, who knows just how to massage exactly the right spot in the right way. She uses her outstanding emotional and interpersonal skills to create an atmosphere of such warmth, safety and comfort, that one of her massages can heal the heart and soul, as well as the body. She responds with exquisite sensitivity and understanding to whatever I need, on a physical and emotional level. It's like a visit to a very dear friend who happens to be a genius at massage."
- Dave Sinden
